| The Toronto Transit Commission's (TTC) 1998 Orion VI model compressed natural gas buses are the first low floor buses the TTC received. These buses were numbered 9200-9249.
The Orion VI CNGs despite using natural gas do not have a large CNG tank on the roof like their predecessors the 1996 Orion V CNG. However, due to their low floor design these buses contain the fewest number of seats. Early in their years of service, the TTC pulled these buses off the road for varous problems which poses a danger for the bus to operate. Since then, the TTC has discovered major problems and drawbacks with the CNG technology. One of the major drawbacks include these buses not being able to be converted into a diesel bus. Consequently, the TTC has decided not to give them a mid-life rebuild. Instead, they were retired prematurely. The last of these buses were retired by November 2006 thus ending the CNG era at the TTC. These buses were all allocated to Wilson Garage. These buses were equipped with Cummins L10G engine and Allison B400R transmission. Photos in this section are taken by Felix Poon |
